Dr. Kyaw Yin Hlaing, Associate Director of SEARC, attended the prestigious World Economic Forum Annual Meeting at Davos, Switzerland, 23-27 January 2013 for the second year running. He was part of the Myanmar delegation that is preparing to host the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, 5-7 June. Dr Kyaw Yin Hlaing, who in Davos discussed the current situation in Myanmar with philanthropist George Soros and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, among others, is also the Director of the National Economic and Social Advisory Council in Myanmar which advises the president of Myanmar, Thein Sein.

Dr. Kyaw Yin Hlaing, Associate Director of SEARC, organized a conference "National Identity and Citizenship in 21st Century Myanmar," in Yangon, Myanmar on 16 and 17 September, 2012 which brought together leading scholars, activists, and government officials. This is the third SEARC conference Dr. Kyaw has organized on Myanmar, the first two (in January 2012 and 2011) were held at CityU.
