Aims of Minor

This minor aims to increase the student’s understandings of physics beyond the secondary school level, to a level that would prepare them well for further studies in a science or engineering discipline other than physics. On completing of the minor programme, student will have learned modern physics and quantum physics. They will also learn several areas of physics of their choice. They will learn these subjects to a level that they can be able to describe the key areas under these topics, able to explain all the technical terms and their significances, able to apply key concepts and principles quantitative to simple cases and qualitatively in more complicated cases. Students will be confident to apply physics principles to open-end situations.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Minor (MINILOs)

Upon successful completion of this minor, students should be able to:

  1. appreciate the impact of physics to engineering applications in a global and societal context.
  2. appreciate basic laws and principles of physics and to use this knowledge to explain everyday life examples and phenomena, to explain science to people not in the science and engineering discipline, and to educate the public in physics.
