Prof. Stefan Hobi

Biography

Stefan graduated from the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, Switzerland in 2007. After two years as a veterinarian in dermatology, and a doctoral thesis about hypersensitivity disorders in cats, he completed a 15-month internship in a large small animal hospital in Switzerland. To bring his great passion closer, he then commenced a three-year residency in animal dermatology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany.

He has published in various international journals including the British Journal of Dermatology where he collaborated with human dermatologists reporting new clinical signs associated with Orthopox virus.

He has given presentations to students and veterinarians ranging from small audiences to large international audiences, including at the World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology in Vancouver, Canada.

For the past five years he has been working at the CityU Veterinary Medical Centre (former PAVC) in Hong Kong. He has numerous other roles including Committee member of the Asian College of Veterinary Dermatology, program co-chair of the ECVD-residents education day and tutor in the Distance Education Course in Veterinary Dermatology at the Centre for Veterinary Education, Sydney University in Australia.

Research

Prof. Hobi has a research interest in the pathogenesis and treatment of allergic diseases of different animals, and he also has a great passion for infectious diseases, in particular staphylococci and malassezia subspecies, their resistance pattern and the transmission between humans and animals as part of the One Health concept. He would also like to gain more insights into some of the genodermatoses.
