31 Oct 2024 (Thu)
On October 31, 2024, the Department of Media and Communication and the Asian Cinema Research Lab at City University of Hong Kong co-hosted a special screening of "Daughter of the Light," directed by Khashem Gyal. The film follows the journey of 13-year-old orphan Metok Karpo, who, in her quest to find her father, navigates complex familial relationships and cultural transitions. Her story reflects broader societal changes impacting traditional life in Tibet. After the film, the audience had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with director Khashem Gyal and his production team. Discussions focused on the unique challenges of filming in remote Tibetan locations, the depth of emotional performance required, and the technical aspects of working at high altitudes. The event attracted approximately 40 attendees, including students and faculty from various academic backgrounds, highlighting the film's appeal across different audiences and its capacity to provoke thought on identity, belonging, and cultural evolution.
