Exciting Visit from Distinguished Visiting Professor Jeff Niederdeppe!

The Department of Media and Communication (COM) is thrilled to welcome our new Distinguished Visiting Professor (DVP), Prof. Jeff Niederdeppe, to City University of Hong Kong for a week-long engagement this week!
As our new DVP starting in February 2025, Prof. Jeff Niederdeppe currently serves as the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Development at the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, Cornell University. His research primarily focuses on the processes and effects of mass media campaigns, strategic messaging, and news coverage in shaping health behavior and social policy. He has published over 220 peer-reviewed articles on these topics.
Prof. Niederdeppe kicked off his visit with a research seminar titled “Bridging Theory, Research, and Practice-Informed Approaches to Communication about Health Equity and Social Policy”, highlighting the role of communication and messaging strategies in social policy.
Prof. Niederdeppe also held several engagement meetings with COM leaders and faculty members, discussing opportunities for synergistic research collaborations in the areas of communication and social policy. The discussion also included details about a visiting student program, enabling two PhD students to undertake a
4-month visit to Cornell University to enhance academic exchange and collaboration.
