FT Chinese Editor-in-Chief Wang Feng Speaks on AI in Journalism at CityUHK COM

On February 19, 2025, Mr. Wang Feng, Editor-in-Chief of FT Chinese, delivered a seminar titled “
AI Application in FT Chinese Editorial Operations and Further Thoughts” at the Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). This event marked the
inaugural talk of the newly established Emerging Tech for Communication Innovation Lecture Series, which explores cutting-edge developments at the intersection of media, communication, and technology.
Drawing on his extensive experience at FT Chinese, Mr. Wang discussed how AI-powered technologies are integrated into editorial operations, offering insights into their applications in news editing, as well as the challenges and opportunities they present. His expertise provided attendees with valuable perspectives on the evolving role of AI in journalism.
With over 25 years of experience in the news industry, Mr. Wang has led FTChinese.com as Editor-in-Chief since April 2015. His previous roles include Online Editor at the South China Morning Post, Founding Editor of the Reuters Chinese News Portal, and Senior Editor at Caijing Magazine in Beijing. He holds a Master’s in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in English from Peking University. In addition to his editorial leadership, he is a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, where he teaches in the Global Business Journalism program.
The seminar attracted an engaged audience of around 120 attendees, who actively participated in the discussion. As the inaugural event of the
Emerging Tech for Communication Innovation Lecture Series, this talk set the stage for future discussions, reaffirming the university’s commitment to leading conversations on technological advancements in media and communication.
