On 10 March 2025, Professors Shuhua Zhou and Li Crystal Jiang from the Department of Communication delivered the final seminar of the
Seminar Series on Anti-Scam Research. The lecture, titled
Approaching Scams from Sociological and Psychological Perspectives, marked the conclusion of this impactful series.
Prof. Zhou, a distinguished scholar and ICA Fellow, has an extensive background in media and communication research, with a focus on television news cognition and information processing. Prof. Jiang specializes in cognitive and interpersonal dynamics, with a focus on health communication, persuasion, and new media.
The seminar addressed the prevalence of scams and emphasized the importance of an empirical, interdisciplinary approach to combat them. Topics included understanding scams, psychological processes involved, societal and structural enablers, and designing effective interventions. The seminar attracted around 30 PhD students and faculty members who engaged actively and contributed to a thought-provoking discussion.
