On April 14, 2025, Dr. Jingwen Zhang from the University of California, Davis, delivered a seminar titled
"Generative AI for Persuasion and Public Health Communication: Navigating the Potentials and Challenges." Dr. Zhang leads the Communication in Health and Technology Research Lab (CHATR) and has received numerous prestigious awards for her innovative contributions to public health and communication technology research.
The seminar explored how generative AI and large language models (LLMs) are transforming communication research and public health interventions. Dr. Zhang discussed how LLMs can automate tasks like message creation and experiment design, enabling scalable communication solutions. She highlighted both the potential of LLMs in creating personalized health messages and the challenges they pose in accurately predicting human behavior. The seminar attracted around 20 PhD students and faculty members who engaged actively and contributed to a thought-provoking discussion.
