Dr. Shen received his PhD from the Ohio State University. His research covers a wide range of topics including public opinion, political communication, new media, audience and consumer behavior analysis, computational social sciences, and health/science communication. He has published articles in such journals as Communication Theory, Journal of Communication, Communication Research, the International Journal of Press/Politics, New Media & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Behavior & Information Technology, and International Journal of Public Opinion Research, etc.
Dr. Shen won the Google Faculty Research Award in 2014 and the Facebook Foundational Integrity Research Award in 2020 and was a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center, Harvard University during 2015-2016. He was the associate editor of 'Communication Methods and Measures' and is currently the associate editor of Asian Journal of Communication. He serves on editorial board for Communication Methods and Measures, Journal of Current Issues & Research in Advertising, Communication and the Public, and Chinese Journal of Communication.
Dr. Shen was a visiting Chair Professor of the Pearl River Program (珠江學者講座教授) at the School of Communication and Design, Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou from 2018 to 2021, and is an external research fellow for Center for Information and Communication Studies at Fudan University, and Center for Internet and Governance Research at Sun Yat-sen University.
