HKICE Distinguished Lecture

From KU Leuven, Professor Johan Hofkens of the Department of Chemistry and Professor Maarten B.J. Roeffaers of the Centre for Membrane Separations, Absorption, Catalysis and Spectroscopy will deliver a joint lecture on 3 April. In his presentation titled ¨The Power of One: From Single Molecule Investigations to Materials Research and Beyond〃, Professor Hofkens will give an overview of the single molecule experiences and development of new microscopy modalities in his laboratory. Professor Roeffaersˇ lecture, titled ¨Illuminating Materials Complexity: Microscopy as Catalyst for Materials Innovation〃, will feature an in-depth discussion of his microscopy-centered strategy to elucidate how nanoscale structural and functional differences impact the behaviour of solid catalysts and metal-halide perovskites. The Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy (HKICE) at CityUHK is organising the lecture. For more details, visit here.

William Benter Distinguished Lecture Series

Professor Arno Kuijlaars of the Department of Mathematics at KU Leuven will conduct a lecture titled ¨Large Random Tilings of a Hexagon〃 on 7 April. In his lecture, Professor Kuijlaars will present a rigorous analysis of a three-periodic hexagon tiling model, incorporating advanced mathematical tools such as matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials, Riemann-Hilbert problems, and steepest descent analysis on a Harnack curve. The lecture is organised by CityUHKˇs Liu Bie Ju Centre for Mathematical Sciences. For more details, please visit here.

Joint cinema studies symposium

The School of Creative Media will host a joint symposium titled ¨New Directions in Trans-Asian Cinema and Media Studies〃 with the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University on 24 April. Through presentations, panels, and a roundtable discussion, experts in Asian Cinema will discuss emerging questions in the field, weaving a model for a ¨trans-Asian〃 film studies approach that is cognizant of the durability of the nation state as well as alternative models of situated multiscalar ideas of place and belonging.
