Prof. Olivier Sparagano recently joined the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health as Professor of Veterinary Parasitology.

Olivier was previously the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Professor of Animal Health and Biotechnology at Coventry University in the UK.

He will contribute to the teaching in the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme and develop a research programme on the distribution of vector-borne parasites and the potential pathogens they may transmit to animals (and sometimes to humans as well). This work will focus on Hong Kong and the wider region, relying on immunological and molecular biology techniques, and will be carried out in collaboration with our ambulatory staff, field veterinarians and clinicians.
