A delegation from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) visited Vietnam last year to strengthen ties with renowned Vietnamese universities and explore opportunities for academic and research collaboration. Recently, CityUHK and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen their partnership and promote academic exchange and research collaboration.
The MoU was signed by Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK, and Professor Vu Hai Quan, Chancellor of VNUHCM. Under this MoU, it aims to facilitate exchange opportunities for faculty and students from both universities, promote joint research projects and enhance academic sharing. The two universities will exchange academic, research or administrative personnel to participate in a wide array of activities and to explore further collaborative opportunities.
A key focus of the cooperation is to establish closer partnerships for the PhD programmes of both universities. VNUHCM will recommend its students to apply for CityUHK’s PhD programmes, with potential consideration for nomination to the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). CityUHK will consider exceptional VNUHCM undergraduate students who graduated with First Class Honours to pursue PhD programmes in CityUHK and will consider awarding PhD scholarships based on academic merit under university diversity initiatives.
The collaboration will also include joint supervision and short-term research exchanges for doctoral students to enhance their global perspectives and to provide them with opportunities to engage in academic research and technology commercialisation in areas of mutual interest. This partnership marks an important step for CityUHK in expanding cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road, injecting diverse perspectives and expertise into the global academic community.
President Boey expressed his excitement in both parties' commitment to nurturing future leaders with an international vision and looked forward to establishing collaboration with other outstanding universities in Vietnam to further expand CityUHK’s academic network.
