‘Girls Get Equal’ Youth Conference 2020/21

Since 2015, CityU’s Department of Asian and International Studies and the children’s rights charity Plan International Hong Kong have organised the ‘Girls Get Equal’ Youth Conference, an annual occasion for local young people to meet, reflect and exchange ideas on international issues. The 6th ‘Girls Get Equal’ Youth Conference was successfully held from January to March 2021 under the theme of girls' issues in low-income Asian countries, especially the linkage to the climate crisis and Covid-19. A total of 44 youth participants in 13 teams from seven secondary schools and students from eight CityU departments participated.

Art Machines 2

Computation has now permeated every aspect of art and media creation and curation, transforming the character of sound and moving image practices, and yielding rich new forms of aesthetic experience that range from digital animation and interactive media, to procedural artworks and bioart. At the same time, machine learning poses ethical challenges. The Art Machines 2: International Symposium on Machine Learning and Art 2021 in June at the School of Creative Media (SCM) is the follow-up conference to Art Machines, which was held in January 2019 at SCM. The symposium focuses on the creation and analysis of art and media and will provide the opportunity for the in-depth exploration of a rapidly evolving field. Topics include, among others, the role of intentionality in art that is governed by machine-learning; aesthetic sources and precedents of machine-learning software and creation; machine learning and the future of media production; and creative coding vs the creative use of machine-learning tools.
