Trending Technology in One Health Conference

The One Health concept, i.e. the interdisciplinary approach to balance and optimise the health of people, animals and the environment, is one of five major interdisciplinary research areas under CityU’s current Strategic Plan. CityU will hold the online Trending Technology in One Health Conference on 4 April. The speakers include Professor Dirk U. Pfeiffer, Chow Tak Fung Chair Professor of One Health, and Professor Sophie St-Hilaire, Professor of Aquatic Animal Health, both of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health; Professor Zhang Yuanting, Chair Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Dr Kannie Chan Wai-yan. Associate Professor, both in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.



Music concerts

Balancing academic studies with the arts is an important aspect of the CityU campus experience. This month sees two concerts organised by CityU’s Cultural and Sports Committee. The annual concert of the City University Philharmonic Orchestra on 14 April at Tsuen Wan Town Hall with a programme including Jean Sibelius, Richard Strauss and Manuel de Falla. The concert features Ms Suzan Chan Sin-man (soprano), Ms Kwok Wing-sum (English horn) and Mr Chiu Kai-keung (conductor). For information, email [email protected].

In addition, the annual concert of the City University Choir will take place on 5 April at Sha Tin Town Hall. This year’s concert is titled “Sunrise Sunset” and features Mr Christopher Cheng (conductor), Mr Victor Li (piano), Ms Rachel Kwok (soprano), Mr Alex Kwok (baritone) and St. Joseph’s College Chamber Boys’ Choir as guest performers. Art exhibition

There will be an opening ceremony and painting demonstration on 11 April by the artist Rebecca Lo at the Wofoo Foundation Gallery in the Run Run Shaw Library where her exhibition will run from 11 to 25 April. Kudos

The American Society for Public Administration has awarded Dr Bert George, Associate Professor, Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA), and his international collaborators the Joseph Wholey Distinguished Scholarship Award for outstanding scholarship on the performance of public and non-profit organisations. The award acknowledges the excellence of their article “Red Tape, Organizational Performance, and Employee Outcomes: Meta-analysis, Meta-regression, and Research Agenda" published in Public Administration Review. Dr George is a member of PIA’s Laboratory for Public Management & Policy.

Digital artist Ms Carla Chan (BA Creative Media graduate, 2009) has been named as a winner of the Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize 2023 for her piece “Traces of Space Beyond”. The prize gives her the chance to develop her creative concepts into finished artworks to be exhibited at a Julius Baer virtual showcase in the second half of 2023. She receives USD10,000 and a place on an exclusive three-month Art and Technology Accelerator programme led by the non-profit MeshMinds Foundation.
