Professor Daniel Ho, Associate Dean (Internationalisation) of the College of Science and Chair Professor of the Department of Mathematics, has received the Teaching Excellence Awards (TEAs) for ‘Innovative Teaching and Learning through Knowledge Transformation for Global Challenges’, and he will also be nominated for consideration of the UGC Teaching Award 2020.
“I try to understand students’ needs with empathy, build mutual trust with them, and lead them to seek breakthroughs. I’m filled with great satisfaction to see them making continuous improvement,” said Professor Ho, who has served the Department of Mathematics for around 30 years and has been proactively looking for opportunities to foster cross-disciplinary learning for students. “Each student is unique. I treasure the time meeting them and understanding their needs. As an educator, my goal is to motivate students and open up their minds. Their future is challenging but also full of opportunities. With empowerment, they can actually develop far beyond our expectation,” Professor Ho remarked with passion.
Professor Ho believes teaching requires dedication and integration to achieve breakthroughs. His insights and passion on teaching are also shared on CityU Today.
The TEAs, administered centrally by the Office of the Provost, acknowledge and reward excellent teachers in the University, while promoting and nurturing best teaching practices. The awards will be formally presented at the Congregation in November 2020, and the awardees’ names will be added to the permanently displayed register of CityU TEA recipients.
