Congratulations to Professor Tong Yang, Chair Professor of the Department of Mathematics, for being elected as a Member of The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (ASHK).
Professor Yang is an internationally renowned mathematician specializing in partial differential equations and kinetic theories. He has made contributions to hyperbolic conservation laws by introducing the Liu-Yang functional with Professor Tai-Ping Liu, fluid dynamic phenomena in kinetic models, boundary layer theories and high Reynolds number limit.
Professor Yang is also a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of American Mathematical Society. He was conferred the title of RGC Senior Research Fellow in 2020; received Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Science and Technology, First Prize) by Ministry of Education Higher Education of China in 2019, the State Natural Science Award (2nd class) of China in 2012 and the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship in 2011.
The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences is committed to promoting the development and advancement of science and technology in Hong Kong, and fostering Hong Kong as a centre of scientific excellence.
