Making a gift

(1) What difference does a gift make at CityUHK?

All donations, large or small, definitely make a difference to the future of our students, our University and our society.
Gifts to the University will help:

  • contribute to general University development and initiatives that enable CityUHK to meet new challenges with largest flexibility
  • fund programmes and research in the pursuit of academic and research excellence
  • develop comprehensive student support initiatives to enhance student development
(2) How can I make a gift to support my alma mater?

You can make a regular (monthly or yearly) or one-time gift to your alma mater through online or downloading a donation form from the Alumni Giving Club website. We encourage you to make a regular gift to give sustainable resources for University development and student support initiatives. You may choose one of the following ways to make the gift:

 

  • Credit card: VISA, Master card or UnionPay
  • Cheque: Please send a crossed cheque payable to City University of Hong Kong to Development Office, City University of Hong Kong, Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon. Please write your name and contact number on the back of your cheque and indicate “Alumni Giving Club” on the envelope.
  • Bank deposit / ATM transfer / Online Banking: CityUHK’s Hang Seng Bank Account (A/C No.: 293-2-191766). Please email the pay-in-slip/screenshot of the confirmation of transfer with your full name and contact details to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk.
(3) Are there any bank charges on donations by credit card?

The University will absorb the handling fee charged by the bank should the donation be made by credit card.

(4) When would my credit card be debited for monthly donation?

Your designated credit card will be debited in the 1st or 2nd week of every month.

(5) How do I update/ terminate my regular donation?

Please email your request to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk with the following information. We will contact you for follow-up.

  • Full name in English
  • Student number
  • Contact number
  • Details of your regular donation (i.e. amount and frequency of gift)
(6) How can I update my credit card information?

To update your credit card details for regular donation, please inform us by writing to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk with the following information.

  • Full name in English
  • Student number
  • Contact number
  • Details of your regular donation (i.e. amount and frequency of gift)
(7) How can I update my contact information?

You can update your contact information through online form. Alternatively, you may send the details by email to aro@cityu.edu.hk and provide the following information for alumni identity verification:

  • Full name in English
  • Student number or the first 3 digits of HKID
(8) Where does my donation go? Can I donate to a specific area or project at the University?

CityUHK appreciates all levels of gifts from alumni and students which will support University development including capital projects and student support initiatives. If you want to donate to a particular area or a specific project within the University, please indicate your wish on the paper or online donation form.

(9) Can I make a gift in honour or in memory of someone or in celebration of a special occasion?

Yes. You are welcome to make a gift to support University development in honour or in memory of an individual or in celebration of a special occasion. Please contact us at 3442 5930 or by email to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk for a personalised arrangement.

(10) Can my name be reflected in the donation of a scholarship/bursary/award?

We would be happy to discuss the name of a new scholarship/bursary/award with you. Please contact us at 3442 5930 or by email to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk for details.

(11) How can I donate if I live outside Hong Kong?

You can click here to donate online by credit card. For questions, please email to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk.

(12) Can my donation be anonymous?

Yes. If you wish to stay anonymous with your donation, please tick the relevant box on the paper or online donation form. If you would like to revert, please let us know by email to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk.

Donation receipt

(1) Can I receive a tax-deductible receipt for my donation to CityUHK?

Receipts will be issued by the University for donation of HK$100 or above.
For monthly gift, a donation receipt will be issued in April of the year. For one-time donation, a receipt will be issued around a month after the donation has been received.

(2) What can I do if I lose my donation receipt?

Please contact us by email to alumgiving@cityu.edu.hk with the following information for re-issuance of receipt.

  • Full name in English
  • Student number
  • Contact number
  • Details of your donation (i.e. amount and date of donation)

Acknowledgment

(1) How will I be recognised with my gifts?

Alumni donating to the University will become members of the Alumni Giving Club (AGC). Donors with cumulative contributions of HK$50,000 or more will be eligible for membership of City University of Hong Kong Foundation.

(2) Are there different levels of acknowledgement?

Gifts to your alma mater are counted cumulatively and you will be appropriately acknowledged. For details, please click here.
