City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) achieved remarkable success by winning 25 awards at the 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations & Inventions Hong Kong (AEII). The honours comprised two Special Prizes, 12 Gold Medals, nine Silver Medals and two Bronze Medals, being the highest among local universities.

CityUHK stood out at this year’s exhibition and won two major awards at this year’s inventions competition. Meat the Next Company Limited, a start-up under the CityUHK’s large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme HK Tech 300 won the First Prize of Inventions Geneva Award and two Gold Medals. The project “Integrated Wireless Motor”, led by Professor Liu Chunhua of the School of Energy and Environment, won the Third Prize of Inventions Geneva Award and a Gold Medal.

Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, extended his congratulations to all the awardees for their well-deserved international recognition. He highlighted that their accomplishments reflected the continuous progress in CityUHK’s inspirational interactive, and innovative learning, positioning the University at the forefront in Asia and the world. He expressed confidence that their innovative research would have a positive impact in addressing pressing global issues.

“CityUHK scholars strive for innovation and excellence, addressing global challenges with pioneering research and innovative solutions that have a positive societal impact,” President Boey said. “We will continue to support our teaching and research teams in advancing cutting-edge research and make significant contributions to Hong Kong, the mainland and the rest of the world. The University community is immensely proud of their accomplishments.”

Twelve start-ups under CityUHK’s HK Tech 300 programme were recognised in the exhibition, winning 14 medals including one Special Prize, eight Gold Medals, four Silver Medals and one Bronze Medal.

Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise), shared his excitement about the achievements of the CityUHK teams included start-ups in the HK Tech 300 programme. “We are proud that our accomplishments have been recognised by the international jury panel. CityUHK will continue to synergise the strengths and resources of Hong Kong and the mainland through HK Tech 300, transforming the University’s research achievements into innovative solutions to address pressing challenges in Hong Kong and beyond,” he said.

By promoting government policies that support innovation, the AEII celebrates achievements and encourages a culture of creativity and problem-solving across Asia and beyond. The 4th AEII, held on 5 and 6 December shone a spotlight on 141 best innovations and inventions from Asia, highlighting the region's creativity and technological advancements. CityUHK showcased a total of 21 projects, earning 25 awards for its outstanding contributions.
