Advanced solar-driven absorption thermal batteries for cooling and heating
The building sector typically accounts for 20–40% of total energy consumption, and it is still growing because of people’s increasing demand. Heating and air-conditioning systems are responsible for about half of the total energy consumption in buildings. Absorption thermal batteries are an effective means to facilitate the application of renewable energy (e.g. solar energy) in buildings by eliminating the mismatch between energy supply and demand in terms of timing and intensity. The development of absorption thermal batteries to replace traditional air conditioners, gas heaters, electric heaters, etc., can make a huge contribution to building energy conservation and emissions reduction.
