Every day, Hong Kong generates over 300 tonnes of textile waste and 10 million plastic bags. The poor recycling infrastructure and throwaway consumer culture has created a monumental waste problem. Over 90% of this waste could be reduced, recycled or replaced. Superwrap aims to provide a one-stop solution to give a second life to textile waste and recreate it as meaningful products to help minimise food-packaging waste. We upcycle cotton fabrics and beeswax to make a beeswax wrap, which is reusable, biodegradable, high-preservation alternative to plastic wrap. To have a real impact on the waste revolution, Superwrap combines resources, waste, technology and design to increase the accessibility and scalability of eco-friendly food packaging.
Our solution creates a triple-win solution. Customers can directly contribute to sustainable development and help tackle the plastic pollution crisis by using our upcycled beeswax wrap. In the long term, it will encourage good environmental practices at a fraction of the market price! Textile and beeswax suppliers can easily manage unused goods and generate revenue by using our resources management tool to book pick-up appointments, and we will provide a door-to-door collection service. Even if we tap only 0.1% of the Hong Kong market, we could save over 30 tons of cotton fabric, 2,000 kilometres of plastic wrap and 763 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
