Hong Kong's education system aims to promote students' whole-person development and life-long learning.?The education system is in general based on six years of primary education starting at the age of 6, three years of junior secondary and then three years of senior secondary education.?The senior secondary curriculum leads to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination for admission to tertiary institutions.?There are 20 degree-awarding higher education institutions, eight of which are funded through the University Grants Committee (UGC).
