Whole-person development nurtures students' full potential

Student Development Services of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) organizes inter-hall activities to enhance whole-person education for CityU students, helping them to develop to their full potential.

The inter-hall competitions hosted by Student Residence Office and Halls of Residence have come to a close, and they received an overwhelming response from students. The six-month inter-hall activities included swimming, track and field, photography, table tennis, basketball, badminton and a singing contest. Students’ close friendships and strong sense of belonging to their hall of residence and CityU gave them the necessary motivation to succeed.

The inter-hall singing contest which marked the end of the six-month activities, took place on 13 April. A total of 25 local, overseas and mainland students from the nine halls took part in the solo and group singing categories. In addition to songs, audiences were treated with piano performances and dances. At last, HSBC Prosperity Hall won the singing contest.

That night was also the prize presentation ceremony of all inter-hall competitions. After a keen competition, the overall championship went to Lee Shau Kee Hall. Professor Lilian Vrijmoed Kwan Lee-ping, Dean of Student Learning, presented the trophy to students from the winning hall. Professor Vrijmoed pointed out that hall life is to provide a chance for students to learn how to build relationships in a diverse cultural environment for a better world.

One of the other activities for students in the halls of residence is the Healthy Snacks Competition, which is part of the Wellness March. It is organized by the Student Residence Office and the International & Non-local Students Office alongside the Halls of Residence. Outstanding cooking skills, knowledge about nutrition, creativity and teamwork helped the winning teams produce delicious meals.

A total of five teams took part in the competition. The JCA Gourmet-Jammers team won “The Healthiest Snacks” award, while the Prosperian Beauties team won “The Most Outstanding Teamwork” award. Ten audiences tasted the snacks and cast their votes for the Cooking Mama team for “The Favourite Snack” award.

CityU is committed to nurturing talented students for the well-being of society. A rich life in the student halls of residence provides excellent opportunities for students to develop to their potential and enrich their university lives.
