City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is providing an opportunity for mainland students to learn about Hong Kong’s financial and economic development and to exchange with Hong Kong students through the Mainland Students Learning Camp on Financial Management 2007.

This event is organized by City University Extension at CityU; CTS International Science-Technology & Culture Exchange Company Ltd; and Daxue China Culture Development Centre, and runs from 22 to 28 July.

At the opening ceremony on 23 July, Professor Lilian Vrijmoed Kwan Lee-ping, CityU’s Dean of Student Learning, introduced CityU’s background and mission to some 50 economics and finance majors from mainland China, while Ms Ying Bing-nan, General Manager (Hong Kong), CTS International Science-Technology & Culture Exchange Company Ltd, encouraged participants to explore relations between Hong Kong and the mainland.

Ms Alice Wong Yuet-yau, Exchange Programmes Manager of CityU’s External Liaison and Cooperation Office, introduced CityU’s courses and admission information using an entertaining short film, and Professor (Chair) Eden Yu Siu-hung, Head of the CityU’s Department of Economics and Finance, talked about the characteristics of his Department, arousing strong interest among participants, some of whom later enquired about applying to CityU.

Meanwhile, four CityU student ambassadors took participants on a tour of the campus, including a stop at the School of Creative Media to see short films shot by CityU students. Participants exchanged ideas with the ambassadors, expressed their particular interest in Hong Kong’s unique cuisines and asked after the lives of mainland students living in Hong Kong. Two CityU student ambassadors, who came from mainland China, talked about their exciting life at CityU and the friendly atmosphere on campus.

“CityU is committed to providing quality whole-person education, so we are very pleased to co-organize this workshop,” said Mr James Ng Kam-ming, Executive Director of City University Extension. “The workshop provides financial training for mainland students and, at the same time, encourages exchanges between Hong Kong and mainland students.”

Participants will attend several financial management related courses during the workshop, including Global Investment: Trends and Issues; Risk Management and Asset Management; and Investment Analysis: Portfolio Management and Wealth Management: Now and Then.

They will also visit the Hong Kong Exchanges Trading and Exhibition Hall and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
