Alumni reunion dinner held in Shanghai

Sharon Ng

The Development and Alumni Relations Office organised the Shanghai Alumni Reunion Dinner on 10 September, at which Professor Way Kuo, University President, and other University representatives celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival in advance with some 100 alumni.

Speaking at the reunion dinner, Professor Kuo expressed gratitude to alumni for their support of their alma mater over the years and hoped they would continue to offer their support to the University’s future development. Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Director of the Development and Alumni Relations Office, said, “Our alumni live in every corner of the world. We work very hard to maintain contact with them by organising activities both within and outside Hong Kong to maintain and bolster our strong network.” In addition, she encouraged alumni to take part in the University’s forthcoming 25th anniversary. To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a giant moon cake was ordered for the dinner party.

Professor Kuo presented souvenirs to two alumni, Mr Edward Chan Chi-kong and Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, for their years of generous financial support of the alma mater. As Staff Giving Club members and Alumni Ambassadors, they encouraged their fellow alumni to pride themselves as CityU graduates and support the “We Love CityU” Caring Card programme. Their plea received an overwhelming response from Shanghai alumni.

Shanghai has the largest number of CityU alumni outside Hong Kong, and the Mid-Autumn dinner is the second Shanghai alumni gathering organised by the Development and Alumni Relations Office since 2005. To expand and consolidate its alumni network, the University has held gatherings in different locations for its overseas alumni residing in more than 30 countries and regions in the world.

The University representatives attending the dinner party included Professor (Chair) Wei Kwok-kee, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor (Chair) Chan Chi-ho, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor (Chair) Horace Ip Ho-shing, Acting Dean of the School of Creative Media, and Dr Zhu Guobin, Director of External Liaison and Cooperation Office.
