City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is delighted to report that two of its honorary degree holders, one of its most prominent benefactors and a former Court member have been included in the 2010 Honours List. The List was announced by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR

on 1 July.

The Honourable Ronald Arculli is one of the seven recipients of the Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM) this year. The award is recognition of his distinguished service to the people of Hong Kong in his capacity as a Member of the Executive Council and as chairman of a number of key organisations in Hong Kong. Over the years, he has established a strong reputation for leadership and is widely noted for his promotion of arts, culture and sports development. CityU conferred an Honorary Doctor of Social Science degree on him in 2005.

Dr Tin Ka-ping, a renowned industrialist and philanthropist, was also awarded the GBM. Dr Tin has been a generous benefactor to CityU over the years. In 2004 the University named Lecture Theatre One (LT-1) in his honour in appreciation of his donations. In addition, the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund was launched at CityU with Dr Tin’s support in 2008 to encourage interactions between outstanding scholars from the mainland and CityU.

Dr Liu Changle, a recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Letters from CityU in 2006, has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) for his contributions to the broadcasting and media industry in Hong Kong. He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Ltd. In 2005, he was appointed a member of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a member of the Commission on Strategic Development in Hong Kong.

Mr Wilfred Ng Sau-kei, a former Court member at CityU and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Yan Chai Hospital, has also been honoured with the SBS for his distinguished public and community service, in particular his contributions to the development of sports in Hong Kong.
