Promoting good health through nanotechnology is the main theme at the 5-day IEEE International Conference at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) from 5 to 9 December.

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Nano/Molecular Medicine and Engineering (IEEE-NANOMED 2010) has been co-organised by CityU, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong.

The aim is to bring knowledge to all players in the field: academics from medical and engineering professions, industrial and clinical researchers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, regulatory authorities and others across the medical, scientific and engineering communities.

“Nanotechnology relates directly to our mission at CityU, which is to pursue problem-driven research that will help develop society and improve the quality of life for people in Hong Kong, the region and beyond,” said Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU and the conference’s Honorary Chair.

Before the first talk of the conference, Professor Arthur Ellis, University Provost, thanked the organisers, saying that the ultimate goal of nano/molecular medicine and engineering is to find ways to prevent diseases, alleviate pain and diagnose illness more efficiently. “IEEE-NANOMED 2010 is an exciting stage of this journey,” he said.

Bringing together the world’s leading researchers, the annual conference focuses on advances in basic and clinical research in medical and biological sciences, using engineering methods related to microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), nano and molecular technologies.

The conference will deliver essential and advanced scientific and engineering information in the applications of MEMS, nano and molecular technologies in medicine and biology to participants.
