More than 130 Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) alumni and students enjoyed a delightful dinner with a talk by Mr Martin Lee Chu-ming, former Legislative Councillor and founding chairman of the Democratic Party in Hong Kong on 28 May. It was the annual dinner organised by the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) EMBA Association.

Mr Lee started his talk, titled “Let There be Harmony in Our Society!”, by briefly describing Hong Kong’s current situation in terms of societal harmony. The former legislator then talked about the social harmony situation and development of democracy on the mainland. He also discussed the recent proposal for introducing national education courses aimed at enhancing a sense of national identity in Hong Kong, and suggested that it is important to preserve the mature and independent thinking of young people.

Professor Way Kuo, University President, Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, and Professor Wei Kwok-kee, Dean of the College of Business also joined the annual event. Professor Kuo thanked the EMBA learning partners, alumni and students for their significant contribution to the development of the University, Hong Kong and mainland China.

“You have brought to CityU great respect in the business community and have earned the reputation for excellence in business education,” Professor Kuo said. He also complimented the College of Business for taking the lead in the realisation of great ideas and for being a key driver for CityU’s Discovery-enriched Curriculum that aims to train future leaders in areas relevant to societal needs.

Mr Chan Chung-kwong, Chairman of the EMBA Association, said in his welcome speech that he felt proud and honoured to be a CityU graduate. He added that under the President’s leadership, CityU had risen steadily in the world university rankings.

He also highlighted the theme of the night, “Care for the present, nurture the future.” “We, as CityU graduates and leaders of society, should pay more attention to what is going on around us; we should pay attention to the present problems, whether they are social issues or international conflicts. We have the onus to nurture the future, to educate and foster the growth of our next generation, and to create harmony in our society, besides improving livelihood,” he said.

Another highlight of the dinner was the presentation of The Most Valued Learning Partner Award and Progressive Achiever Award to Ms Kristen Lee Kit-yee and Mr Adam Lee Yat-keung, respectively, for their continuous support to CityU’s EMBA programme and their excellent performance.
