Close to 140 alumni of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) enjoyed a fun-filled New Year reunion in Shenzhen on 18 February.

The “Shenzhen Alumni Reunion” organised by the Alumni Relations Office helped to further strengthen links between CityU and alumni.

Under the theme “In Celebration of the Year of the Dragon”, the dinner ushered in a prosperous year for CityU and the gathered alumni, most of whom were from Shenzhen while others were from Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Zhejiang, Heilongjiang as well as the US. They demonstrated a strong sense of belonging to their alma mater.

In attendance were Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, Professor Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Alumni Relations), together with Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, CityU's Honorary Fellow and distinguished alumnus, Mr Nelson Yip Siu-hong, CityU's Honorary Fellow, Mr Robert Lui Chi-wang, Vice-Chairman of the CityU Convocation, and Dr Wilson Chan Fung-cheung, Honorary Secretary of the CityU Eminence Society.

During the dinner, Professor Kuo shared with all CityU’s latest strategic developments and new initiatives for the coming years; and professional education and research achievements at the University.

CityU emphasises fostering a global perspective and professional knowledge, and encourages students to discover and innovate. It plans to sponsor more students for overseas exchanges and internships, and continues to perfect the environment and facilities on campus, Professor Kuo explained.

“Students and alumni are highly valuable to the University,” he said.

Mr Fan and Mr Lui shared their experience of serving CityU, saying they hoped the alumni network will continue to expand.

“CityU’s development needs the support of each alumnus,” said Mr Fan, adding that he was pleased to see the alumni network in mainland China strengthening. “Let us work together to take CityU to new heights.”

Mr Lui reiterated the strong links between CityU and alumni, sharing how the Convocation helps unite alumni in support of CityU through various activities and services.

The attractions at the dinner included a talent show, interactive games, a lucky draw and a “Best Dressed Contest”, in which participants displayed their beautiful and creative outfits on the runway to compete for the “Best Dressed Award”.

During a musical interlude, three alumni from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the School of Law kept the audience entertained with Chinese cucurbit flutes and dancing, receiving a warm round of applause.
