More than 35,000 visitors attended Information Day at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 19 October.
They took part in a range of interactive activities, information sessions, workshops and demonstrations. These sessions provided the most up-to-date information about the full-time programmes offered by CityU. Visitors could also find out more about the campus environment and university life at the teaching and research facilities.
Industry leaders and outstanding CityU alumni hosted talks on the development and future trends of different industries to help secondary students select the most appropriate academic programmes for their future studies.
The information sessions on JUPAS and non-JUPAS applications helped students understand CityU’s admission requirements and selection criteria, and offered advice on the selection of programmes and preparation for admission interviews.
The ever-popular exhibition “Pure Land: Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang” gave visitors the opportunity to appreciate Buddhist wall paintings in northwestern China. The first of its kind in the world, the exhibition makes use of virtual reality technology, making visitors feel as if they are actually inside the cave viewing the paintings in real life. With the aid of tablet computers, visitors experienced the creativity and multi-media technology developed by CityU’s teachers and students.
Among the facilities opened up to secondary school students was the HK$4-million Gateway Education Laboratory which has been specially designed for undergraduates and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers and 3D scanners. The innovative learning environment supports CityU’s Discovery-enriched Curriculum.

Information sessions and exhibitions were held by the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, School of Creative Media, School of Law, and School of Energy and Environment. Guided tours were arranged for visitors to see CityU’s high-tech teaching and research facilities such as the studios and digital media teaching facilities in the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, Innovation Centre, Data
Communication Laboratory, Aquatic Science Laboratory, and the Library. Participants also visited student hostels to know about university life.

The lecture titled “The five winning skills in university that should be learned from secondary schools” delivered by Dr Ma Ka-fai, Assistant Director of the Chinese Civilisation Centre, attracted many parents and secondary school students.
