New business seminars target local executives

A new seminar series on emerging trends launched by the College of Business at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is attracting interest from the local business community due to the volatility of the financial markets, and providing an opportunity for our faculty to interact with business practitioners.
More than 40 local executives participated in the first seminar of the series on 30 November with a session titled “Wealth Management and Private Banking: Challenges of Hong Kong and Ways Forward”.

The series, which is called the “Seminar Series on Emerging Trends”, has been jointly organised by the Executive Education Unit in the College of Business and the Department of Economics and Finance.

Professor Yan Houmin, Dean of the College of Business, officiated at the opening ceremony for the series at which Mr Simon Topping, Principal of the Financial Services Regulatory Centre of Excellence (ASPAC Region), KPMG, delivered a featured talk on “Regulatory Challenges for Financial Institutions: A Global Issue”.

His talk was followed by a panel discussion on topics related to compliance issues in Asia and how to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness in asset management and private banking.

Dr Michael Wong Chak-sham, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance, and Dr Wilson Chan Fung-cheung, Adjunct Professor from the same department, also participated in the panel discussions.
