New and consolidated programmes to meet emerging demand

A new undergraduate programme in Biomedical Sciences and nine consolidated majors will be introduced at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) starting in 2016–17. The new programmes cater for demands from students and employers, as well as current and projected developments in knowledge and skills.

With the ageing of the population in Hong Kong and other cities in the developed world, the need for biomedical experts will continue to grow. The new Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Sciences has been set up to meet the increasing demand for professional manpower in biomedical sciences, particularly in clinical diagnosis and testing.

The programme emphasises the integration of basic knowledge in biomedical sciences with investigative skills and cutting-edge technologies. It enables students to understand the causes, diagnoses and treatments of human disorders and diseases.

Graduates will be able to work in healthcare and related service industries, medical diagnostics companies and the pharmaceutical field.

CityU’s programmes are constantly evolving to reflect scholarly and professional trends. Nine consolidated majors will therefore be offered by the Colleges of Business, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering, in the new academic year.

The University assesses its programmes through a multi-stage review process that comprises College/School validation by a monitoring committee, followed by approvals by College/School boards, campus-wide committees, and the Senate.
