A memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at nurturing talent for Hong Kong has been signed between City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and Microsoft Hong Kong Limited (Microsoft).

The MOU was signed on 12 March by Mr Clement Lam Chun-yu, Acting Director of Knowledge Transfer, CityU, and Ms Cally Chan, General Manager, Microsoft Hong Kong. 

The document lists possible collaboration areas such as supporting faculty members and researchers in R&D projects with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) Collaborative Research programmes; working with CityU entrepreneur programmes to nominate mature startups for Microsoft’s start-up programmes; and extending opportunities to CityU students to take up student and education programmes at Microsoft. 

This is the first time Microsoft Hong Kong has signed an MOU with such comprehensive coverage with a local university.

Guests attending the signing ceremony included Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology), Professor Yan Hong, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, Professor Sam Kwong Tak-wu, Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Stella Pang, Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Ms Maria Chin Pomon, Director of Computing Services, and Mr Fred Sheu, National Technology Officer, Microsoft Hong Kong.
