The second steering committee of the CityU Industrial and Business Leaders Circle (Leaders Circle) will fortify interactions between City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and industry and business sectors, solicit resources for student development and expand its research applications.

More than 70 industrial and business leaders and guests attended the inauguration ceremony of the second steering committee of Leaders Circle on 13 June.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, thanked members of the Leaders Circle for their support.

“Our outstanding engineering and business subjects are recognised in international rankings. The staunch support from the industrial and business sectors has significantly shaped CityU’s rapid development and achievements in recent years,” he said.  

Dr Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Convenor of the new committee, said he hoped the Leaders Circle would strengthen communication between industry and business sectors and CityU.

“It is important for research projects to be applicable. Members of the Leaders Circle can create greater synergy and have a stronger impact on society by exchanging ideas with CityU,” he said.

In his vote of thanks, Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), expressed his appreciation to the guests for attending the ceremony.

He emphasised that CityU was dedicated to pursuing excellence in research.

“We have achieved a great success on our three strategic research themes, namely One Health, Smart City and Digital Society,” he said.    

Guests were introduced to three outstanding research projects after the ceremony: a smart thermostat for central air-conditioning systems for energy saving; a smart real-time battery state and health diagnostics system; and the award-winning glass antenna.   

Also in attendance were Dr John Chan Chun-tung, Co-Convenor of the first steering committee of the Leaders Circle; Mr Eric Chow Yik-cheung, Mr Eric Sun Yung-tson, Mr Wilson Yuen Yiu-fai, Mr Benjamin Kwok Chan-yiu, Mr Lau Tat-chuen, all of whom are members of the second steering committee; Dr Peter Ho Ka-nam, a member of the CityU Council; Professor Cliff Sun Kai-lit, a member of the Board of Governors of the CityU Foundation; and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations).?? Other steering committee members who were unable to attend included Mr Clement Cheuk Sin-cheong, Mr Douglas Chan Lap-tak, Ms Clara Chan Yuen-shan and Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun.
