More than 100 guests including members of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Foundation and good friends who enthusiastically support the University got together at the CityU Foundation Spring Reception on 8 March to extend their good wishes for our future development.

Following the performance of two Spring Festival songs by the CityU Chinese Orchestra, the reception kicked off with another special activity. Mr Lester Garson Huang, CityU Council Chairman and Honorary Chairperson of the CityU Foundation, and Professor Way Kuo, CityU President and Chairperson of the CityU Foundation, made pig-shaped glutinous rice dumplings to express their gratitude to guests for their support.

The rice dumplings won high praise from Dr and Mrs Yip Kit-chuen, Honorary Patrons of the CityU Foundation, when they were invited on stage to taste the dumplings.

“It’s because of your staunch support that CityU goes forward with such excellent achievements,” Mr Huang said. “As a symbol for a family to get together, glutinous rice dumplings in sweet soup should be enjoyed by all family members. We are like a big family, caring and supporting each other.”

After wishing all guests happiness and good health, Professor Kuo said CityU’s Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences would continue to promote its “One Health” concept and contribute to food safety and public health. Mr Huang appealed to guests to continue to support the University and CityU Foundation so as to allow sufficient funds to nurture more talent for the wellbeing of society and services to the world.

The session on making glutinous rice dumplings was hosted by Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations). Other guests attending the reception included Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs); Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Vice-President (Administration); Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff; Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations); Dr Eric Chiang Hsin, Dr Peter Ho Ka-nam and Professor Cliff Sun Kai-lit, Members of the CityU Foundation Board of Governors; and Mr Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Council Member.

After the reception, there was a tour of the “Art Deco. The France-China Connection” exhibition where the many precious art works integrated with advanced technology offered visitors a unique viewing experience.
