Honours awarded to members of CityU community

Members of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) community have been named on the 2019 Honours List in recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong or for their dedicated public and community service.

Dr Yu Kwok-chun, a recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration from CityU in 2014, has been awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the community over the years. Dr Yu has devoted himself to promoting youth development and supporting youth education. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Limited, and a successful and respected entrepreneur in the retail sector. Dr Yu has also taken up important positions on various government advisory bodies and rendered insightful advice, particularly in furthering the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong.

Mr Wilfred Ng Sau-kei, CityU Foundation member and former external Court member, has been awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star for his long and distinguished public and community service, in particular his significant contribution to the promotion and development of sports in Hong Kong.

Mr Vincent Chow Wing-shing, Deputy Council Chairman, has been awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) in recognition of his long and significant contribution and dedicated commitment to public service, especially in the realm of the arts and culture. 

Ms Connie Lau Yin-hing, former Council member, has been awarded the SBS for her life-long commitment and exemplary service to the Hong Kong community. 

CityU alumnus Dr Cheung Tin-cheung has been awarded the SBS in recognition of his dedicated and meritorious service to the Government, particularly in promoting building safety and a sustainable built environment in Hong Kong.

Ms Cheng Ming-ming, CityU Foundation member, has been awarded the SBS for her meritorious community service. Ms Cheng has contributed to the fostering of social harmony by giving solid support to various charitable causes and community services.

Mr Karl Kwok Chi-leung, Honorary Fellow of CityU and former Council member, has been awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) in recognition of his dedicated participation in public and community services, in particular in sports development. Mr Kwok has actively promoted water sports and athlete training in Hong Kong. 

Dr Lee George Lam, external Court member and CityU alumnus, has been awarded the BBS in recognition of his invaluable contribution in promoting innovation and technology in Hong Kong. 

Mrs Janice Choi Kwan Wing-kum, external Court member, has been awarded the BBS for her dedicated service to the community and the promotion of the arts and culture in Hong Kong. 

CityU alumna Mrs Winnie Poon Yam Wai-chun has been awarded the BBS for her long and dedicated participation in services for the community of Kwun Tong. 

Council member Mr Thomas Cheung Tsun-yung and three alumni, Mr Ho Kam-biu, Ms Amy Ng Suk-yee and The Hon Yung Hoi-yan, have been appointed Justices of the Peace.

CityU alumni Ms Charmian Koo Hor-yung, Mr Mo Shing-fung, Ms Helen Yeung Hoi-ning and Mr Yip Tsz-fung received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service.
