The Student Career Centre at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has been named “Judith and Gary Cheng Student Career Centre” in appreciation of the support and generous donations made by Dr and Mrs Gary Cheng Faat-ting to the University. The ceremony was held on 14 May.

Dr Cheng, a successful entrepreneur and professional accountant, has been a loyal supporter of CityU since he graduated from the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme in 2011. He supports the University not only through donations, but also serves as the Honorary Vice-President of the CityU Foundation and is a CityU Court member and former Chairman of CityU Eminence Society, a senior alumni association that supports University development.

At the ceremony, President Way Kuo expressed his gratitude to Dr Cheng for his long-standing support.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments Gary has made. He has provided long-term support to the University, and with his help, I am sure, CityU will continue to move forward,” said President Kuo.

Dr Cheng said he was glad to see the rapid development and remarkable achievements of the University under the leadership of President Kuo.

“I feel very blessed for having the honour to serve my Alma Mater and I hope my contributions will help CityU grow further and higher,” he said.

Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), said that Dr Cheng was an important CityU partner, and he thanked Dr and Mrs Cheng for their generous contributions over the years.

Dr Cheng’s donation will help to provide important resources for the University Research Advancement Project and enable CityU to pursue research excellence.

Guests attending the naming ceremony included Dr and Mrs Cheng and their family members, President Kuo and members of CityU management.

The Judith and Gary Cheng Student Career Centre occupies a floor area of 132 square metres. It houses career consultation rooms and facilities for workshops, training and talks aimed at assisting students in their career development and job search.

Since 2010, the Centre has been named in honour of Ms Fan Lee-foon, the late grandmother of distinguished alumnus Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai under a term-naming scheme, which was initiated by Mr Fan. Now the good practice of giving back to the Alma Mater will be continued by Dr and Mrs Cheng for another 15 years.
