CityU will continue to support student-athletes in pursuing their academic and athletic potential in full.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) actively encourages students to immerse themselves in athletic and musical activities as well as pursue academic knowledge. More than 1,200 student-athletes have been admitted through the Student Athletes Admission Scheme since it was set up in early 1997.

The academic and athletic potential of seven student-athletes admitted at the start of the 2022/23 academic year will be supported: Sean Glass, wheelchair fencing, Ho Kwan-kit, table tennis, Reginald Lee Chun-hei, badminton, Leung Sze-lok, badminton, Lo Sum-man, karate, Lui Lok-lok, badminton, and Pau Yik-man, table tennis.

President Way Kuo welcomed the seven student-athletes to the CityU family at a small gathering alongside the Deans of several Schools/ Colleges on 15 September.

"CityU nurtures outstanding young people who are well-versed in academics, sports and global perspectives," said President Kuo.

CityU was the first university in Hong Kong to introduce and practice the concept of One Health and has dominated sports in the tertiary education sector over the past 15 years, winning seven out of 12 Grand Slams in a local sports league in which 13 local major tertiary institutions, including the eight UGC-funded universities, participate.

In addition to scholarships, CityU helps outstanding student-athletes pursue their university education and athletic dreams through various training programmes.

President Kuo embodies this spirit of multidisciplinary excellence. He has led the CityU marathon team at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon for 12 consecutive years, except in 2020 because of COVID-19.
