CityU shines at Asia Exhibition of Innovations & Inventions

CityU achieved outstanding results by winning a total of 24 awards at the 3rd Asia Exhibition of Innovations & Inventions Hong Kong.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) achieved outstanding results by winning a total of 24 awards at the 3rd Asia Exhibition of Innovations & Inventions Hong Kong (AEII), including one Special Prize IFIA Award, two Gold with Congratulations of Jury Awards, and five Gold, 14 Silver and two Bronze medals, the highest number among local universities.

Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityU, congratulated all the awardees for their well-earned international recognition. He said that their achievements also represent the vision of innovative, inspirational and interactive learning at CityU, and that he believed their research results will have a positive impact on society and the world.

“CityU will continue to support our faculty and students in their pursuit of excellence by fostering a culture of innovation and excellence to contribute to Hong Kong society and the world,” he added.

Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Senior Vice-President (Innovation and Enterprise) at CityU, expressed his delight with the success of the winning CityU teams and the HK Tech 300 programme. “We are honoured that our achievements have won recognition from the international jury panel and that our teams received the most awards among local universities. CityU and HK Tech 300 will continue to support potential start-ups and promote innovation and technology,” he said.

CityU won a number of awards in its first year participating in the exhibition. The project “Negative Reactance: A Game Changing Device for Power Applications”, led by Professor Michael Tse Chi-kong, Associate Vice-President (Innovation) and Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering at CityU, won the Special Prize IFIA Award and a Gold with Congratulations of Jury Award. A research team led by Professor Li Lishuai, in the School of Data Science and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, won a Gold with Congratulations of Jury Award with its “ClusterAD: Method of Presenting Flight Data of an Aircraft and a Graphical User Interface for Use with the Same”.

In addition, “Multi-Site Integrated Power Converters for DC Distribution Networks of Data Centers”, invented by a team led by Professor Jiang Chaoqiang in the Department of Electrical Engineering and four start-ups under CityU’s HK Tech 300 innovation and entrepreneurship programme, won a Gold medal in the exhibition. The four start-ups are Arbele Limited, i2Cool Limited, Seth Biotech Limited and S3Tough Tech Co. Limited.

The 3rd AEII, held between 7 and 8 December, featured more than 110 inventions from Hong Kong, mainland China, Russia, Korea and Thailand, competing for various awards. CityU showcased a total of 23 projects and won 24 awards.
