At a media Spring Reception held today (20 February), Professor Freddy Boey, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), along with his senior leadership team, underscored the University’s commitment to “Innovating into the Future”. The event showcased the University’s innovative and impactful projects slated for 2024 and 2025.

The Academy of Innovation (CAI) will continue to uphold CityUHK’s leading position in the region by offering innovative academic programmes aimed at fostering deep-tech ventures. The CAI will persist in nurturing young entrepreneurs, incubating deep-tech start-ups, and promoting university-industry collaboration. The University will also launch Hong Kong’s first Master of Science in Venture Creation programme, and the Graduate Research and Innovation Trek Programme (GRIT) will provide start-up teams with intensive training and potential investment opportunities.

As the first local University to adopt and implement the pioneering “One Health” concept, CityUHK is uniquely positioned to lead in this area. The University will partner with the Medical Schools of various prestigious universities in Australia, Israel, Singapore and the United States to establish an Institute of Digital Medicine (IDM) at CityUHK this year. The IDM will support doctors with advanced technology, enhance the University’s research capabilities in related fields, and explore the long-term benefits of digital health solutions for patients, further solidifying its commitment to the future of healthcare.

International students, dressed in traditional Chinese New Year attire, participated in the event and wrote calligraphy fai chun, wishing CityUHK and everyone a prosperous Year of the Dragon.

This year, CityUHK is also thrilled to celebrate its 30th Anniversary. The celebration theme, “Innovating into the Future”, mirrors the University’s steadfast commitment to cultivating talent through innovation and pioneering research. The Anniversary will be commemorated with a series of activities, including the publication of an Anniversary Book, a movie production by CityUHK alumnus director Nick Cheuk, the inauguration of new buildings, student performances, and an alumni homecoming day.

“CityUHK takes pride in our past and looks forward to the future,” said President Boey. “We are ready to swiftly embark on impactful and innovative projects in 2024 and 2025. We are committed to addressing today’s challenges with future technologies, Innovating into the Future.”
