A Collaborative Framework Agreement (CFA) was signed between City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE). By combining the expertise and resources of CityUHK and the HKAGE, gifted students will be offered unparalleled opportunities to develop their skills, engage with industry, and contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Hong Kong.

The CFA was signed by Professor Lu Jian, Dean of the College of Engineering at CityUHK, and Dr Jimmy Wong Kam-yiu, Executive Director of the HKAGE. The two parties expressed a shared commitment to cultivating gifted students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM).

Speaking at the HKAGE award ceremony earlier, Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning) at CityUHK, emphasised the University’s strong support for the HKAGE and their shared vision of providing gifted students with exceptional learning experiences. He said that over the past four years, the University has provided training for about 300 gifted students through its tailor-made programme, in collaboration with the HKAGE. The one-year programme covers a range of topics, including artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI (GenAI), blockchain and internet of things (IoT) technologies.

Under the agreement, the College of Engineering at CityUHK and the HKAGE will work together to explore the development of innovative STEAM programmes and activities for the advancement of gifted students through the CityUHK EE Join Lab Scheme, initiated by the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) at the University. This involves collaboration with industry associations, research centres and organisations, creating an online platform on the CityUHK EE website, and organising a series of regular networking events.

The scope of collaboration includes a research collaboration platform, regular technology events, recruitment and training, and research and development and commercialisation projects. These programmes and activities will provide gifted students with the opportunity to enhance their STEAM knowledge with industry support and develop rewarding careers in electronic engineering.
