The Career and Leadership Centre of the Student Development Services (SDS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) collaborated with the Civil Service Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSAR Government) to host the first "Government Career Fair 2024" on 11 September. A total of 30 government bureaux and departments participated, introducing 50 civil service grades and recruitment arrangements to students and encouraging those who aspire to serve society to join the civil service.

Following last year's Government Career Fairs at local universities, this year's first career fair was held at CityUHK, attracting a large number of students.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, stated that CityUHK shares the Government’s unwavering commitment to striving towards a brighter and better Hong Kong by nurturing young talent who will serve and bring positive changes to society.

“In addition to providing quality professional education, CityUHK has actively partnered with various government departments by organising career talks and roadshows, supporting internship schemes and mentorship programmes, and offering training and workshops throughout the academic year,” he said.

During her speech, Mrs Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan, Secretary for the Civil Service of HKSAR Government, said, “Young people are Hong Kong’s future and the civil service is the backbone of the Government.  To maintain an energetic team with promising candidates to succeed their predecessors at different levels, the Government has been making relentless efforts to attract aspiring young people to join the civil service in recent years.  The Government Career Fair is one of our flagship initiatives aiming at providing an interactive platform for students to explore potential career pathways in the Government and learn more about job opportunities available within the civil service.” 

Accompanied by Professor Lee, Professor Henry Chung Shu-hung, Dean of Students, Professor Dannii Yeung Yuen-lan, Associate Provost (Student Life), and Professor Toh Kian-lam, Director of SDS, Mrs Yeung visited the recruitment booths, interacted with CityUHK students to learn about their career aspirations, and encouraged them to join the civil service team and build a better future together.

The fair provided opportunities for students to engage with current civil servants, with some recruiting units offered onsite interviews. Seven career talks provided students with insights into the application process and career paths.

CityUHK encourages its students to actively participate in various recruitment fairs to explore career opportunities and plan early for their career paths. The Career and Leadership Centre of the SDS is dedicated to organising various employment guidance and recruitment activities to support students' career planning and job search efforts.
