CityUHK hosts Principals’ Luncheon 2024 and the launch ceremony for nine new Flagship Programmes

CityUHK held Principals’ Luncheon 2024, introducing the University’s latest developments to secondary school principals and teachers.  

 

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held Principals’ Luncheon 2024 under the theme “Nurturing Global Talent and Future Leaders” on 30 September, which also marked the officially launch of nine new Flagship Programmes. About 100 guests attended the Luncheon, including CityUHK management, professors, students, secondary school principals, and teachers. They engaged in meaningful conversations and heard about the latest developments at CityUHK.

Over the years, CityUHK has hosted the Principals’ Luncheon to connect with secondary school principals and teachers to explain the latest developments at CityUHK. This year’s Luncheon included an introduction of the nine new Flagship Programmes, so that they can provide useful and timely advice to their students preparing to apply for JUPAS.

Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President, shared CityUHK’s latest programme and recent achievements. “CityUHK is a young and vibrant University,” he said. “We will launch nine Flagship Programmes in the next academic year, covering various professions with special features. The programmes will also offer scholarships, exchanges and internships at top-ranked global universities to broaden our students’ horizons and global perspectives.”  He shared the latest global rankings for CityUHK, including being recognised as the Most International University in the World by Times Higher Education (THE) for 2024 and being ranked 62nd in the QS World University Rankings for 2025.

Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement), said, “CityUHK values its connections and collaboration with secondary schools. Through various activities, the University aims to help secondary school students broaden their horizons and understand the academic environment and atmosphere of the University, and to inspire them to prepare and plan for their future development.”

Professor Steve Wong Hang, Associate Vice-President (Community Engagement), engaged in a dialogue with three secondary school principals, including Mr Dion Chen, Principal of Ying Wah College; Mrs Monica Fung Cheng Wai-yee, Principal of Holy Trinity College; and Mr Samuel Chan, Vice Principal of La Salle College. They discussed the collaboration between secondary schools and CityUHK, highlighting how these partnerships complement each other in enhancing the student learning experience.

At the luncheon, Professor Antoni Chan, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate) of the College of Computing, discussed the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how to utilise AI in teaching and learning.

CityUHK has introduced a series of Flagship Programmes with an enticing scholarship scheme for the 2024/25 academic year to empower students with vital knowledge and skills, cultivate their global leadership ability, and connect them with leading professionals. The first four Flagship Programmes are: Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, BBA Global Business, Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship, and Pathway for Research, Innovation, and Multinational Engineering.

In the 2025/26 academic year, the Flagship Programmes will be expanded to nine adding BSocSc Psychology (Stream: Wellbeing Enhancement and Care Management (WE-CARE) Programme), Creative Arts and Technology Excellence, Data Empowerment: Learn, Transform and Achieve, International Sustainability Programme for Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship, and Bachelor of Laws.
