Pro-Chancellor Chung reappointed at City University of Hong Kong

Dr Chung Shui-ming, GBS, JP, has been reappointed as Pro-Chancellor of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) for a further three-year term, effective from 1 August 2025.
Dr Chung’s reappointment affirms CityUHK’s immense confidence in his leadership and vision as the University continues to cement its position as a leading global institution.
Since joining the CityUHK Council in 1998, Dr Chung has held numerous key positions: Treasurer (1999–2003), Deputy Council Chairman (2004–2006), Council Chairman (2006–2008), and external member of the Court (2014–2016). In recognition of his outstanding service to CityUHK he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Social Science in 2010.
During his tenure, Dr Chung has played a pivotal role in guiding CityUHK through significant periods of growth and innovation. His strategic insights and unwavering support have reinforced CityUHK’s academic standing, research capabilities, local and global reputations, and community engagement.
“I am profoundly honoured and very grateful to be reappointed as Pro-Chancellor of City University of Hong Kong,” said Dr Chung. “I have had the privilege of witnessing CityUHK’s remarkable success over the years as well as its growing contributions to education, talent development, and academic research.”
He added that his firm belief was that education could transform destiny and drive progress. “My reappointment allows me to continue working closely with all CityUHK stakeholders and to write an even more glorious chapter in the field of education at a time when Hong Kong is poised to become a major international education hub,” he continued.
Beyond his involvement with CityUHK, Dr Chung is a distinguished accountant with decades of experience in senior management roles across banks, financial institutions, listed companies, and public bodies. He has made numerous notable contributions to public service, was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1998, and was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in 2000.
In 2024, Dr Chung was recognised as one of the Non-Executive Directors of the Year in the Listed Companies category by the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, a testament to his deep expertise, integrity, and strategic leadership in corporate governance.
