CityU produces over 9,000 graduates this year
In total, there are 91 doctorates, plus six engineering doctorates; 112 master of philosophy degrees; 1,917 master’s degrees; 387 postgraduate diplomas/certificates; 3,602 bachelor’s degrees; and 409 associate degrees. The Community College of City University conferred 2,654 associate degrees.
In addition, honorary degrees were conferred upon Mr Liu Changle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Ltd; Mr Xu Guanhua, Minister of Science and Technology of China; and Professor Rosie Tse-tse Young, Honorary Professor in medicine at the University of Hong Kong. In order to cope with the future challenges, Professor Chang told the graduates “never cease to strengthen yourself” and to keep in mind that “only after you learn will you realize there is much more to learn”.
“Dear graduates, this is the field of competition you are entering. It is as if you have been selected to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games, but you do not know in what event you will be asked to compete, nor will you know the rules of the event until 2027,” he said. “But do not let that prospect scare you. You have been given the necessary preparation at CityU for this type of competition.”
In his note of thanks, Mr Xu said that it was an immense honour to be conferred an honorary degree by CityU. “Today is such a day, a day that Mr Liu Changle, Professor Rosie Young and I will never forget. We will adhere to CityU’s motto Officium et Civitas and let it be our common inspiration,” he said.
