CityU “Wellness March”
Exercise for Everyone
“Wellness March”, a 10-week series of health-related activities, kicked off on 25 February(follows the Chin version) under the theme “March in Wellness – Make you different”. The message is clear: exercise is for “you”, everyone on campus. Events this year include swimming, archery and skipping, plus a health and fitness assessment, health talks, walks in the country parks, workshops on Qi Gong and a healthy eating campaign. As usual, there will be competitions for rowing, badminton and healthy snacks.
The main focus this year is on the “Quali-Run”, an extension of last year’s “Quali-Walk”, which provides proper instruction to runners. At the same time, this is a platform for preparing a possible University team for next year’s local marathon, according to Mr Roy Ngai Hoi-yee, Senior Physical Education Officer.
“Exercise should be fun and good for everyone,” said Mr Ngai, who is also the Vice-President of the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China. “A lot of people associate sport with exercise, but that’s not really the case. Sometimes people don’t think they are good enough to be a champion and they don’t get involved. But our aim is to get people exercising to achieve physical well-being. That’s why CityU holds the Wellness March every year.”
