Wong Wai-nap, a second year student from the School of Creative Media (SCM), co-produced the film Distance with 10 other students and won a Special Mention award in the student division of the Third Fresh Wave Short Film Competition. The competition is organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society.
The short film is loosely autobiographical, focusing on a father-son relationship. The father is a fisherman whose livelihood is affected by a government restriction on fishing. Wong dedicated the film to his father, who also attended the presentation ceremony. He majors in Moving Image: Live Action (MILA) Studio, and likes to explore varied subject matter. He led 10 fellow students and spent more than three months producing the 30-minute video, assuming responsibility for scriptwriting, casting, filming, directing among others.. Wong Wai-nap received $40,000 funding from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Distance was the first large-scale production he had overseen.
