HK TECH Tiger at CityU nurtures science and innovation leaders

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) proudly presents HK TECH Tiger, a suite of exceptional programmes that enable high-flying students to pursue excellence, develop their potential, and take courses taught by world-class STEM professors.

“HK TECH Tiger offers the most outstanding students challenging learning experiences, preparing them to be future leaders in science and innovation through our high-quality curriculum and engagement in pioneering research under the expert guidance of our world-class faculty,” said President Way Kuo of CityU.

“Joining CityU and studying at an Ivy League School has enabled me to get a prestigious degree and start a glittering career,” said Mr Fang Peiran, 2017 graduate of a Joint Bachelor’s Degree Programme with Columbia University.

Monica Chan Hiu-man, Year 2 student, Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, was equally positive. “The collaboration with Cornell University plus the focus on the One Health concept inspired me to pursue my career aspirations at the University’s Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences,” she said.

To cater to the advanced learning needs of elite students, and to enhance their competitiveness, HK TECH Tiger offers a customised curriculum in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and other high quality fundamental courses. Students can also pursue a master's degree at the University or at a world-renowned overseas university through our bachelor’s and master’s combination option, and may have the opportunity to participate in HK Tech 300, our flagship innovation and entrepreneurship programme.

Two new scholarships, the President’s Scholarship and the Hong Kong Tech Scholarship, reward students who have achieved academic excellence in science (including the biological sciences) and engineering. Tenable for four years, the President’s Scholarship is worth $300,000 per year and the two Hong Kong Tech Scholarships are each worth $200,000 per year.

Students must have excellent public examination results in order to be eligible for HK TECH Tiger, such as having an overall score of 30 or above in four core and two elective subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination; 3A* in the General Certificate of Education Advanced level or an overall score of 40 or above in the International Baccalaureate? programme for non-JUPAS students.

At CityU, which promotes the integration of research and teaching, high-quality input from scientists paves the way for the success of the programme. According to Stanford University, over 140 CityU faculty members are listed among the top 2% of the world's most highly cited scientists. CityU is also ranked 1st among local universities in the top 100 universities for granted US utility patents by the National Academy of Inventors. As one of the fastest-growing universities in the world, CityU is ranked top in Hong Kong in Citations per Faculty in the QS World University Rankings, averaged over a 5-year period from 2017 to 2021. What’s more, CityU won 12 awards, the highest number among all universities in Hong Kong at the Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days 2021.
