A delegation from the Department of Education of Guangdong Province visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 6 March. Discussions between the two sides focused on learning about and strengthening exchanges and cooperation in higher education between the two places.

The delegation, led by Mr Zhu Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, was warmly received by CityUHK’s senior leadership team, including Professor Freddy Boey, President, Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy), Professor Julie Li Juan, Associate Vice-President (Mainland Strategy), and Ms Sng Jing Li, Director of the Office of the President. 

Members of the delegation from the Department of Education of Guangdong Province included Ms Li Xia, Director of the Teacher Management Division, and Mr Li Jinjun, Director of the Exchange and Cooperation Division. 

President Boey thanked the delegation for their visit, and Professor Lu introduced CityUHK’s academic and innovative achievements, as well as its latest projects, including the Academy of Innovation, the HK Tech 300 programme, the Institute of Digital Medicine, to be established this year, and the CityUHK (Dongguan) project. Professor Lu thanked the Department of Education of Guangdong Province for its unwavering support to CityUHK (Dongguan), emphasising that CityUHK (Dongguan) will focus on promoting innovative education to nurture innovation and technology talent. 

Mr Zhu extended his appreciation of CityUHK’s achievements in science research and innovation, highlighting its outstanding performance in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. He added that a number of higher education institutions in Hong Kong have established campuses and research institutes in Guangdong Province in recent years, reflecting closer ties in education exchange and cooperation between the two places. He said he hoped that CityUHK (Dongguan) would bridge the talent in the mainland and overseas and promote interdisciplinary learning. The two parties further discussed higher education developments and talent nurturing in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.
