CityUHK welcomes 2024 Policy Address initiatives on Education and Talent Development
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) enthusiastically welcomes the Chief Executive’s initiatives outlined in the 2024 Policy Address. The address presents a comprehensive strategy to integrate education, technology and talent development, expand global connections, attract and cultivate high-calibre talent, and promote Hong Kong as an international hub for top-tier professionals. These initiatives align seamlessly with CityUHK's vision of “Innovating into the Future.”
Ranked as the most international university in the world by THE in 2024, CityUHK has been actively expanding its global footprint and fostering academic and research collaboration with leading universities worldwide, including those from the Mainland and Belt and Road countries.
To support Hong Kong's development into an international post-secondary education hub, CityUHK will gradually increase the number of undergraduate places for non-local students over the next few years. We will ensure that the necessary facilities, including dormitories and classrooms, are in place to support this growth.
CityUHK is dedicated to positioning Hong Kong as an international hub for higher education, and health and medical innovation. Earlier this year, CityUHK established the Institute of Digital Medicine with global partnerships to drive future healthcare innovation. This initiative leverages our research strengths in engineering, data science and life science to develop innovative technologies that support doctors and explore digital health solutions for the long-term benefit of patients.
We will continue to attract global talent and foster an environment conducive to academic exchange and innovation. Notably, our Distinguished Visiting Professors Scheme, launched last year, has brought over 30 eminent scholars from top institutions, such as ETH Zürich, Harvard Medical School, MIT, the University of Chicago, National University of Singapore, University College London, University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford. These distinguished professors co-supervise our PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers, enhancing our academic environment.
“CityUHK will continue to adhere to the principle of ‘Innovating into the Future’, guiding our faculty and students to align with global development trends,” said Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK. “We aim to provide more opportunities for them to become true global citizens and top-notch researchers, contributing to Hong Kong society and the world.”
