CityUHK expands partnership with University of Cambridge: two new MoUs signed to boost academic collaboration

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has built an extensive cooperative relationship with the University of Cambridge this year. Following five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) previously signed by the two institutions this year and the launch of the first CityUHK-Lucy Cavendish College Scholarships, another two MoUs were signed on 1 November to solidify their commitment to cooperation in academic and research collaboration.

The first MoU centred on promoting academic and research collaboration between the College of Business of CityUHK and Cambridge’s Department of Land Economy, was signed by Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business of CityUHK, and Professor Martin Dixon, Head of the Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge, and was witnessed by Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, and Dame Madeleine Atkins, President of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge.

Another MoU, seeks to promote and further academic links and strengthen the collaboration between the Department of Media and Communication, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of CityUHK and the Cambridge Digital Humanities, School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Cambridge, was signed by Professor Christine Huang Yi-hui, Head of the Department of Media and Communication at CityUHK and Professor Caroline Bassett, Director of Cambridge Digital Humanities, School of Arts and Humanities. The MoU was endorsed by Professor Alfred Ho Tat-kei, Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at CityUHK, and was witnessed by President Boey and Dame Madeleine.

The agreement will explore opportunities for collaboration in education and research for master's and research degree students, and encourage academic faculty to participate in academic exchange activities.

“The exciting and extensive cooperation with the University of Cambridge will deepen talent exchanges and academic cooperation between the two institutions and enhance the global exposure of our students and faculty members,” said President Boey.

“Recognised as the Most International University in the World by Times Higher Education in 2024, CityUHK strives to foster global academic and research collaboration and facilitate the development of an international hub for post-secondary education and the 'Study in Hong Kong' brand,” President Boey added.

In addition to the above two MoUs, another five MoUs were signed with the University of Cambridge earlier this year: one between the Department of Physics at CityUHK and the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge; one between CityUHK's College of Engineering and the University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering; one between CityUHK's College of Science and the University of Cambridge's Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology; and two between CityUHK and Lucy Cavendish College.
